Australians for Cambodian Education is a non-profit and non-government organization that aims to create awareness among the Australians about education and life in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is a voluntary organization that has a vision to support the rights of children to learn, play and believe in their own future. It was established in 2004 by a group of people who started The Happy School Project in Cambodia to educate the children. The organization raises funds and resources for the school project through fundraising events, individual sponsorships and community education programs.

History

The Australians for Cambodian Education is a 100% volunteer organization. It consists of Australian individuals who are professionally trained to work for the provision of education to the young Cambodians through The Happy School Project. These schools are based in Psar Deum Tkou commune in Phnom Penh. It was established in 2004 by a group of friends who spent time in Cambodia and were encourages to take the initiative. The organization aims to create awareness in Australia about the life in Cambodia. It organizes fundraising events and community education programs. The Australians for Cambodian Education is an Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It has over 300 volunteer staff that helps the organization to achieve its goal of provision of education in Cambodia. The organization made the Australians realize the need to make a difference in the development of a neighboring country that needs assistance. Through its efforts it supports the right of a child to learn, play and create a future.

Services Offered

The Australians for Cambodian Education raise resources to support The Happy School project. It pays for rent, school supplies and salaries of the teaching staff. It provides professional development trainings for the teachers. The organization develops curriculum and updates it to enhance the experience and quality of education. It supports students to adjust back into school and vocational training centers of the state. The project was expanded to induct more students into the school by acquiring surrounding lands and facilities to build recreation areas within the premises. This encourages play and creativity among the students in a safe environment. It offers a number of social services to connect the students with their families. It also purchases rice to support the disadvantaged families.
