What is the vision of Cora Barclay centre for deaf children?

The vision is to be recognised as an institution that seeks to provide excellent services to each and every child who has any form of hearing impairment in the community.

What are the missions of the organisation?

The organisation has a number of missions which it strives very hard to realise and these are;

  • To holistically use the ten steps involved with teaching the hearing impaired in the services that are rendered to parents of such children
  • To provide assistance to parents in order to help them get the best from the efforts of their children
  • To ensure that parents are also realised as key players in the provision of assistance to each and every child with a hearing impairment condition in order to ensure that these children get to enjoy themselves when they are introduced into the mainstream educational systems
  • To help the children attain maximum output from the efforts that they put into the various learning strategies
  • To ensure that children are properly screened in order to arrest such situations at the early stages and find better and lasting solutions to them by providing such children with audio amplification equipments

These are the main missions of the organisation and it continually strives to achieve each and every one of them.

The Cora Barclay centre for deaf children is also a member of the First Voice organisation which is an organisation that is recognised in both Australia and New Zealand for its services that it renders in ensuring that children at a very tender age who have any impairment with their hearing and speech organs are properly educated and cared for in order to help them realise their full potentials.

Services provided by the Cora Barclay centre for deaf children

The Cora Barclay centre for deaf children provides the following services;

Early intervention services

This is a service that is provided to children who are not above the age of 2 years and it includes the provision of various appropriate support systems which are all aimed at helping such children to develop even with their hearing impairments.

School support services

This is also for those children who are below the age of 18 years but above 5 years. It is aimed at helping them to better fit into the educational system and also to see to it that they are provided with the various necessary support services to help the maximise their potentials.

Audiology program

This also deals with the undertaking of various audio screening tests to ascertain the magnitude of an individual’s hearing problem in order to prescribe the best and appropriate treatment to such a person.

Counselling for family members of deaf or hearing impaired children

This service is for providing useful bits of information to family members of deaf children to help them better understand their wards in order to better assist them with a lot of things.

The provision of regional and remote services

This is a service that the organisation renders to people with hearing impairments who are located at very remote areas within the country. It is done with the help of the National Broadband Network (NBN) and is referred to as the VidKids initiative.

The organising of professional workshops

This deals with the holding of workshops that are aimed at providing professional information with regards to children with hearing problems in the community.

The organising of social activities for parents

This is the avenue that is created on Facebook for parents of children with hearing problems. This is a platform which allows them to chat with other parents of such children and share their experiences and ideas about how to better assist their kids.
