Values of Hope for Children
- Children and youth have an equal right to protection from harmful cultural practices, exploitative environments and child abuse regardless of gender, age, disability, race, tribe religion, economic background and any other distinguishing factor.
- Children are the responsibility of the community, society, non-governmental organisations and the government itself.
Purpose of Hope for Children
Hope for Children has made it a mission to help families and youth achieve financial independence so as to reduce the risk of involvement in unlawful activities such as drugs and theft.
In addition, Hope for Children strives to ensure community togetherness and growth through initiatives that address key issues faced by the locals.
Furthermore, Hope for Children is committed to raising the level of the quality of education in the country, this in turn leads to an empowered generation of youths that can lead the country to development.
Lastly, Hope for Children promotes healthy community practices that help improve the environment in which the local children grow up in.
The vision is an Ethiopia where children get quality education, health and families have access to meaningful livelihood.
Hope for Children has put in place several steps to improve education in Ethiopia, these include:
The school of St. Yared
St. Yared is a school that was set up in 2009 to cater for brilliant students who would otherwise have no access to education due to extreme poverty. At the school, children are provided for with uniform and two nutritious meals a day. This is in addition to extra-curricular activities that help deter the children from taking part in harmful activities such as drug abuse.
Child sponsorship and scholarship
Hope for Children puts 450 orphans and vulnerable children through school up until year 10, in addition to giving them medical care and other necessities.
HIV awareness and home based care
Hope for Children aims to provide personalized care to persons living with HIV/AIDS as well as training family members necessary skills to care for relatives living with the virus.
Integrated community health
This program sees children receive both physical and mental health check-ups every year. This is done to monitor their physical health as well as nutritional health. Those who suffer from HIV/AIDS receive anti-retrovirals and professional nutritional information. A key component of the integrated community health project are the sexuality and reproductive health training and education sessions.
